Oriental Medicine - Characteristics of A Jow

When trying to make an herbal preparation you must keep in mind the qualities desired in the jow.  For example, some of the desirable characteristics of a jow, are:

  1. Reduction of pain
  2. Stimulation of blood flow
  3. Break up of blood clots
  4. Strengthening of tissue
  5. Increased tissue healing and immune system response
  6. Strengthening of muscle (and perhaps bone)
  7. Elimination of heat, swelling, dampness or cold
  8. An anti-spasmodic effect
  9. Stopping of internal bleeding
  10. Bone healing

While these are the basic qualities one would want in a jow formula, an all purpose jow would have an even balance of these characteristics perhaps with a slight emphasis on tissue-healing for sprains and bruises.
